The Home-Care Revolution — Why the Residential Segment Is the Fastest-Growing Channel in the HBOT Market

The single most significant trend in the hyperbaric oxygen therapy market is the acceleration of the home-care channel. According to Mordor Intelligence’s 2026 assessment, the global HBOT market has reached $7.88 billion in 2026, up from $7.43 billion in 2025. Technavio projects a 6% compound annual growth rate through 2030, with North America registering the highest regional growth rate at 31.7%.

While hospitals still account for 54.85% of the total HBOT market by end-user, the home-care segment is advancing at a 9.42% CAGR through 2031—nearly double the overall market growth rate of 6%. This indicates a fundamental migration of HBOT use cases from clinical settings toward personal ownership.

Soft-shell portable chambers operating at 1.3 to 1.5 ATA are the primary vehicle for this shift. They require no construction, no prescription in most U.S. states, and can be set up in a bedroom or home gym. Technavio specifically flags “the development of portable systems to improve home-based accessibility” as a key trend reshaping the competitive landscape.

North America is the dominant region in global HBOT, accounting for 42.08% of total revenues in 2025. Technavio independently projects North America will post the highest growth rate among all regions—31.7%—during the 2026–2030 period. Several factors underpin this leadership: the United States has the most developed reimbursement infrastructure for the 14 FDA-cleared HBOT indications, the highest concentration of academic research programs actively running HBOT clinical trials, and the largest addressable consumer wellness market.

Beyond chronic wound management—which holds 35% market share with diabetic foot ulcers as the primary driver—the reports highlight three additional growth vectors: neurological applications including traumatic brain injury and post-stroke recovery, radiation injury treatment for the expanding cancer survivor population, and off-label wellness applications.

For manufacturers and distributors, the implications are clear: the home-use segment represents the fastest-growing opportunity in the market. Products designed for residential installation—with emphasis on safety, ease of use, compact footprint, and aesthetic design—will capture the largest share of this expanding market.
